Barcelona cruised into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League with a 3-1 second leg victory over Arsenal at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night.

A goal apiece from Neymar, Suarez and Messi, gave Luis Enrique’s side a 5-1 aggregate win over the Gunners, and condemned Arsene Wenger’s side to exit the last-16 stage for the sixth time in a row.

The holders came into the game with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg at the Emirates Stadium, and they started the second brightly, with Messi forcing the Arsenal keeper, David Ospina into a superb save from close range.

Minutes later, the home side were in front, thanks to a Sublime Neymar finish, following a defensive error from the Arsenal defence.

Mohammed Elneny equalised for the visitors just after the break, with a splendid finish, to give the Gunners a glimmer of hope.

However, a Suarez spectacular volley and a late Messi finish left Arsenal with the Premier League title as their only hope of silverware this season.

Speaking after the game, the Arsenal manager said: “I have to say we played against a team with the best strikers I’ve seen.

“The three are exceptional and from nothing they can create a chance.

“We have to admire art and they have two or three players that transform normal life into art,” Wenger added.

Arsenal will look to salvage their season with a trip to Goodison Park to face Everton on Saturday.

Thiago Alcantara then gave Pep Guardiola’s side the lead for the first time in the 108th minute, before Kingsley Coman — on loan from Juventus — curled in a superb strike two-minutes later to make it 6-4 on aggregate and sent the German giants into the last eight.

Coman now has six goals and 10 assists in 24 appearances in the Champions League and Bundesliga this season.

“That was a crazy game,” Thomas Mueller said.

“We knew, even when we were 2-0 down, that we were still in it.”

Bayern captain Philipp Lahm added: “What an unbelievable evening. You could see how tight things are when two top teams meet each other.

“We knew it would be all over if we had conceded a third goal.”
