12 International Airlines Schedule Flights From Nigeria [FULL LIST]

At least twelve international airlines have scheduled flights from Nigeria following the federal government’s lifting of the ban on foreign travel from August 29, 2020.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, had announced on Monday that the international flights would begin with the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Sirika had promised to announce the protocols and other procedures to be followed by air travellers in compliance with recommended guidelines to avoid further spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

THE WHISTLER obtained flight schedules of various international airlines that have indicated readiness to commence operations from Nigeria.

Two international airlines fixed the earliest date of August 29, while four airlines fixed September 1 to commence operations in the country.

Others picked various dates in September and October for their first post-covid-19 flights from the country.

Below are the scheduled dates of flights of the various airlines.

  1. British Airways – September 1
  2. Air France – September 1
  3. KLM Airlines – September 1
  4. Lufthansa – September 4
  5. Emirates – September 2
  6. Etihad Airways – October 2
  7. Delta Airlines – September 11
  8. Turkish Airlines – September 4
  9. Ethiopian Airlines – August 29
  10. Egypt Airways – September 3
  11. Angola Airlines – August 29
  12. African World Airlines – September 1

Nine airlines have yet to announce the commencement date of their first post-covid-19 flights from the country.

They are: Virgin Atlantic, Qatar, Air Italy, South African Airways, Kenya Airways, Middle East Airlines, Rwanda Air, Asky Airlines, and Air Namibia.

Coronavirus, which was officially declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 21, had compelled governments of different nations, including Nigeria, to ban international travel into their countries.

The travel restrictions took a tremendous effect on aviation and other sectors of the global economy, with aviation recording massive reduction in revenues for airlines.

Many airlines were forced to lay off employees or declare bankruptcy due to the travel restrictions.
