2016 Hajj: NAHCON Confirms Death Of 18 Nigerian Pilgrims

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed that 18 Nigerian pilgrims lost their lives during the 2016 Hajj exercise.
Among those affected were victims from Kogi, FCT, Bauchi, Taraba, Kwara, Niger and Kaduna, the commission disclosed.
NAHCON which put the death toll at 18, said however that the casualties recorded in 2016 was the lowest in the last five years.

According to the head of NAHCON medical team, Ibrahim Kana, the low death toll was due to enhanced sanitation, increased medical awareness and compressed national medical team.
Kana said the medical team attended to over 21, 000 Nigerian pilgrims during the exercise.
He added that five pregnant women were discovered in Saudi Arabia despite earlier warnings given before the pilgrims left Nigeria.
