2017 AfroBasket: D’Tigers Defeat Cameroun 106-91, Qualifies For Semis

Nigeria’s men’s basketball national team, D’Tigers, outscored Cameroon 106-91 to book a place in the semi-finals of the ongoing 2017 FIBA Africa Championship in Tunisia and Senegal.

Coach Alex Nwora’s boys took the first quarter 25-18 before extending their lead at half time with a 27-25 win in the second quarter. The Lions rallied back in the third quarter with a 27-23 win but the defending champions D’Tigers roared into the semifinals with a 31-21 win of the last quarter.

Nigeria’s team captain, Ike Diogu led the way scoring with 28 points, while Ikechukwu Nwamu and Bryant Mbamalu churned 25 and 22 points respectively. Akin Akindele also had 13 points.

The result also saw Nigeria’s D’Tigers become the first side to reach 100 points at the ongoing 2017 AfroBasket championship.

In the other Quarterfinals played on Thursday, Senegal made a tremendous statement of their FIBA AfroBasket 2017 intentions by beating Angola 66-57 to join Nigeria, Tunisia and Morocco in the Semi-Finals.

D’Tigers will now battle their West African neighbours Senegal in the last four on Friday while, Tunisia face Morrocco.
