2019: Buhari Edges Tinubu, Leads Campaign In Kogi

Contrary to President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent statement that APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will take full charge of his presidential campaign, the reverse appears to be the case as the President himself led his campaign in Lokoja, Kogi state, on Wednesday.

Recall that President Buhari had during the inauguration of his Presidential Campaign Council on January 7 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja said, “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, my co-chairman, will be fully in charge, and is going to be on 24-hour vigil,” throughout the presidential campaigns.

The President stated this weeks after the kick-off of his presidential campaign in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state, on December 28.

But recent events and reports indicate that President Buhari may have backpedalled on his decision to put Tinubu in full charge of his campaigns.

The President is said to be preparing to visit seven states in the next one week for his presidential campaigns, invalidating his earlier position that the APC National leader will oversee his campaigns to enable him face governance of the country.

Recall also that Buhari had led the APC Northeast zonal rally of his campaign on Saturday, January 12, at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, the Bauchi state capital.

The developments follow recent rumours that Tinubu allegedly collapsed and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital few days before he was appointed head of the Buhari campaign team.

The full timetable of the ruling party’s presidential camping rallies also indicate that Buhari has been billed to visit Warri on Thursday where he will personally flag off the Delta and Edo leg of his presidential campaigns.

He will also be visiting Kaduna on January 18 as well as Niger and Plateau states on January 19 for the campaigns. The President is also expected to personally grace the campaign in Kano State where he got highest votes in 2015 on January 27.

Buhari is scheduled to campaign in Imo and Abia on January 29, Cross River and Ebonyi on Janaury 30, and Ogun state on January 31

The President’s campaigns will hold in Jigawa and Gombe on February 2 and Katsina and Zamfara on February 3.
