2019: ‘Buhari Will Seek ‘Life Presidency’ If Re-Elected’

Associate Professor of Kennesaw State University, United States, Farooq Kperogi, has warned Nigerians against re-electing President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 polls.

Kperogi, a social media activist, who gave the warning via his twitter handle, @farooqkperogi, stated that if Buhari is voted into power, he will change Nigeria’s constitution in order to earn him a third term in office.

According to him, “the ever-sycophantic political class” would not stop at his third term bid, but will seek life presidency.

Kperogi recalled that this was the intention of former president Olusegun Obasanjo in 2005, but for the intervention of the National assembly.

Both chambers of the National Assembly, had saved democracy by rejecting the proposed amendment of the Constitution to extend presidential tenure from 8 to 12 years in a historic vote.

Kperogi, who was reacting to statement by Katsina state governor, Bello Masari, that the full actualisation of the vision of the president will take more than 8 year, said:

“Write this down somewhere: If Buhari gets and survives a 2nd term, the ever-sycophantic political class would seek to change the constitution to get him a 3rd term & thereafter a life presidency. Obasanjo, who is sounding all holy and wise now, attempted the same nonsense,” he said.
