2019: Kwankwaso Reveals Why Atiku, Lamido, Others Can’t Defeat Buhari

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has explained why former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, and ex-governor Sule Lamido, may not be able to win the 2019 presidential election for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Kwankwaso, who has been holding nationwide consultation regarding his presidential ambition, said for the PDP to be able to sack President Muhammadu Buhari from office in 2019, the opposition party must zone its presidential ticket to the northern region where the president hails from.

Speaking to some PDP delegates and members in Benin on Monday, the former Kano State governor said it would be wise of the opposition party to pick its presidential candidate from the North West zone in order to break the expected votes of President Buhari who hails from Katsina State, at the poll.

The politician presented himself as the most suitable candidate to defeat Buhari at the poll as he’s from Kano State which he boasts as the most populous northern state and which sits in the same North West zone as the President’s state.

THE WHISTLER reports that northern presidential aspirants such as Atiku from Adamawa, Lamido from Jigawa and Dankwambo from Gombe state, come from the North East zone.

Stating this as an advantage for him, Kwankwaso said: “If you are selecting a candidate, you have to under this circumstances look at the geography, history and population of the country. It is a common knowledge based on previous census that Kano State is the most populous state and North West is the most populous region in the country.

“So, if it is true that our former party is fielding a candidate from the North West, it is also necessary for the PDP to consider fielding its candidate from the zone.

He said, “I have no doubt in my mind that the South South and South East are very solid in the PDP. I believe that what we will do in the North with what will come out in the South West, I have no doubt that PDP will be victorious in the 2019 presidential election.

“Everyone can contest to get the party’s ticket and getting it is one thing, but the most important thing is winning the election. I am better qualified for the ticket. I am in the PDP to add value and I believe it is only Kwankwaso that can bring this to table in all the states of the federation,” he added.

Kwankwaso further argued that with his wealth of experience as two-time governor, minister of defence and senator, the opposition PDP would be striking gold if it picks him to contend the Presidency with President Buhari in 2019.
