2019: Time For Real Change, Says Mbonu At Presidential Declaration

A presidential aspirant in the forthcoming general elections, Hon. Okey Samuel Mbonu, has said that he is in the race to bring the change the country desperately needs, to rebuild Nigeria.

Speaking during a press conference to announce his intention to run for the presidency in the 2019 elections, recently in Abuja, he said: “Things need to change desperately in Nigeria. We certainly can’t butcher each other, as we are doing today; or we can build a formidable nation that all Africa can copy from.

“If we do not begin to build this nation anew, we can be sure to remain a scorned region of the world, with investors fleeing by the day, and the embarrassment of all things African.

“However, under my leadership, I’m sure we can build this nation into a model nation in Africa, and one of the world’s great republics,” Mbonu said.

According to him, “Ours is a global campaign, for the heart and soul of Nigeria; and for that purpose, we are all first-class citizens of Nigeria.

“We do not back down, as we assert our political rights in the pursuit of something far bigger than ourselves: a far better, and more respectable Nigeria.

“We need a Nigeria that is secure, and a Nigeria that adds value, and not strife to the rest of the world. Every Nigerian community around the world will be impacted by this race, as we seek to rebuild Nigeria.”

The Anambra state-born, strategic advisor, who is based in Washington DC, United State, explained that: “As a Strategic Advisor & Consultant in Washington, I primarily provide expertise on Sub-Saharan Africa to US public and private institutions; including to ranking members of the US Congressional Sub-Committee on Africa, among other institutions in Washington and around the US.”

The presidential aspirant, who is also a co-founder and director at the Nigerian-American Council in Washington, DC, further stated that: “spending over three decades as I have, and learning under six US presidents, and countless US congressmen and women of integrity, certainly makes me the only candidate with thorough US governance experience, and a network no candidate can match in this campaign.

“It is a great thing that part of my heritage is from the United States, because I will use my ties to the most successful democracy as a real asset to bring the United States and Nigeria even closer for mutual benefits.”

On his political platform, he said: “Our political party platform is still evolving because we are engaged with other men and women of integrity and goodwill. We will announce the party platform soon.”
