2020 Budget: Buhari Halts Payments Of Salary To Civil Servants Not On IPPIS

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that civil servants who are not captured on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) should not be paid salaries moving forward.

Buhari disclosed this while presenting the 2020 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja.

According to him, this move is one of the measures put in place by his administration to check corruption and ghost workers in the civil service system.

IPPIS is an information Communications Technology (ICT) project initiated by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of payroll administration for its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Speaking earlier, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, stated the need for Nigeria to return to a January-December budget cycle, saying that the red chamber would accelerate work on the 2020 Appropriation Bill presented by Buhari.

Lawan, however urged the ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government to appear before the NASS committees to defend their budget proposals as contained in the bill noting that the lawmakers had planned to pass the budget in December.
