The 86-year-old was said to have held the position of Jarman Kano in the Kano Emirate Council.

Hashim would become the third professor to have died in Kano in the last three weeks, besides other prominent citizens of the state.

The state had lost a renowned professor of economics, Ibrahim Ayagi, professor of physiology, Aliyu Abdullahi Umar Dikko, the Regional Manager of First Bank in Kano, Abdullahi Lawal, a former Managing Director of the defunct Continental Merchant Bank, and a former Editor of Leadership Sunday and Triumph Newspapers, Musa Ahmad Tijjani, among others.

There have been speculations that the recent surge in the number of deaths in Kano could be linked to Coronavirus (COVID-19).
