4,000 UNIOSUN Students Face Expulsion Over Non-Payment of Fees

Not less than 4,000 students of Osun State University face possible expulsion for defaulting in payment of their tuition fees to the institution.

The deadline set by the university authority is Tuesday February 28, 2017, with the affected students likely to miss upcoming first semester examinations slated for March 6.

In a statement released on Sunday, the school management disclosed that a total of 4,410 students were yet to pay their school fees, two days to the deadline.

The new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Labode Popoola raised the alarm over the issue recently. He said the institution was being owed a backlog of school fees of about N2 billion by students, adding that the development has affected the smooth running of the system.

It was gathered that majority of the affected students owe the university school fees for up to two semesters.

The university, however, advised students who cannot meet up with the deadline and do not want their admissions terminated to apply to the school authorities to grant them leave of absence for the current semester with a sworn affidavit, pledging to pay before resumption.

As part of decisions to avoid similar situations, the management of the school has urged all returning students to pay their fees and register for their courses upon resumption, adding that the institution will no longer tolerate non-adherence to the deadline payment as contained in the university calendar.
