40 dead, 105 injured as explosion rocks Gombe

More than 40 people have been confirmed dead, and 105 injured after a multiple bomb explosion occurred in Gombe State, Nigeria’s North-Eastern region, yesterday.
The explosion is suspected to have been carried out by terror group, Boko Haram.

The Secretary of the red cross Society of Nigeria in the state, Abubakar Yakubu, who spoke at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) Gombe, said that the injured victims were already receiving treatment.
The Police Public Relations officer, DSP Fwaje Atajiri confirmed that the first blast happened at about 7:30 p.m. local time near the entrance to Dadin Kowa, while the second occurred in less than an hour later in the Dukku motor park area.
The third explosion is said to have occurred about 2 hours later.
He said both areas were immediately cordoned off to prevent looting of shops by hoodlums while restriction of movement equally imposed to enable the police provide more security of lives and property.
Witnesses reported hearing two blasts at both sites but lack of electricity made it impossible to say whether they were suicide attacks or homemade bombs left at the scenes.

A trader, whose shop is near the Dukku bus station, said: “There were two explosions. They happened after I had closed my shop for the day. I and others who were around came back and began pulling out bodies. I counted up to 30 dead bodies. I became sick and left.”
This attack is coming a week after twin blasts killed about 50 people at the city central market .
Buhari has vowed to crush the insurgency, which has claimed at least 15,000 lives and made more than 1.5 million homeless since 2009.
