Abia LG Workers On Collision Course With State Govt

The Abia State National Union Of Local Government Employee( NULGE) has directed it members to henceforth stop the early morning/ evening thumbprinting at the various local governments across the state.

The directive was in protest against alleged ill treatment of workers by the state government.

In a statement signed by the Union president, Comrade Nwaigwe Ikechi Kennedy, the association urged the workers to adhere strictly to the instructions.

The Union president expressed worry over the suffering of the members across the 17 LGAs in the state, stressing that their members had been subjected to hardship due to non-payment of salary.

The statement directed all the workers to boycott “the BIOMETRIC Clocking /Attendance effective from TODAY 16/2/2021 until further notice.”

Nwaigwe stated that they took the decision in the best interest of the union and all members of NULGE in the state.

He therefore directed all the officers of NULGE in the various LGAs to ensure strict compliance with the instructions.

The state government had on January 2021 re-introduced the biometric attendance to checkmate lateness and absenteeism among the workers in order to improve efficiency at the various local governments.
