Abia Mourns Doctor Who Died Saving Coronavirus Patients

The Abia State government has commended the courage and sacrifice of late Caleb Anya, a medical practitioner, who lost his life while at the frontlines of the fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19) in New York, United States of America (USA).

Anya, who was of Abia origin, was said to be infected with the virus in the course of tending to others and lost his life.

A statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for information in the state, John Okiyi Kalu, said Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, the government and entire people of our state, mourn with the family, friends and relations of the late Anya as well as the people of Ohafia where he hailed from.

According to the statement, the death of Anya reminds all of the risk health workers in the country and across the globe face on a daily basis to protect the rest of humanity.

The statement reads partly: “His loss reminds us of the risk health workers in our state and globally take daily to protect the rest of us and we use this opportunity to once more salute their courage and sense of sacrificial service to others.

“Our prayer is that the Almighty God will continue to protect all of them even as we all work harder daily to provide those at the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19 and other infectious diseases with necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep them safe

“May the soul of Dr Caleb Anya and others who have lost their lives in this pandemic rest in the bosom of the Lord.”
