Abia Senator Calls Orji Kalu ‘A Fraud’ Over Claim On Nkpa Road

Mao Ohuabunwa, the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly has lambasted former Abia governor, Orji Kalu, for claiming to have attracted the reconstruction of Nkpa Road in Bende Local Government Area of the state.

Senator Mao noted that the road was only awarded by the NDDC to Slok Construction, a company belonging to the ex-Abia governor.

The lawmaker said Bende people should not be misled into believing that the construction of the road was an act of philanthropy by Kalu.

Speaking during the foundation laying of Federal Health Centre in Lodu Imenyi, Mao said the project was influenced by him and not Slok Construction that is handling the project.

“That project was not attracted by Slok Construction or the owner, I had to push for it to be inserted in the budget first, so anyone claiming to have attracted the project is a fraud. Slok is only a construction company handling the project and nothing else,” Mao said.

The senator also said he has protested the poor quality of the job Slok has done on the road, adding that the NDDC has approved the extension of the road reconstruction by 3 Kilometers through his input.

“I have also taken them up because the quality of the road is not what we expected. Apart from that, I have also gone back to NDDC and they have approved extra 3 kilometres of road which sons of Imenyi Nkpa will handle. As I speak, they have been given the contract papers,” he said.
