Abike Dabiri Blames Hackers After Tweeting ‘Fake News’ On Kankara Schoolboys’ Release

The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabire-Erewa, has blamed hackers for using her verified twitter account to tweet a ‘fake news’ on the release of over 300 schoolboys kidnapped from a government secondary school in Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State.

Dabire-Erewa had initially commended the President Muhammadu Buhari administration for securing the release of the schoolboys allegedly kidnapped by Boko Haram on December 11, 2020.

But after probaly learning that the news was fake, she quickly disowned the twitter account that shared it even though it was carrying the small blue tick that indicated that it’s a verified account.

“Not my handle. Beware of fake news,” she said in a now deleted tweet.

The NidCOM chairman, who doubles as President Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, followed up with another tweet where she claimed that her account was hacked “in the last couple of minutes.”

Dabiri-Erewa said, “Pease don’t credit any post on katsina boys to my twitter handle. I lost control of my handle in the last couple of minutes, along with my Instagram. I have recovered and changed my password.”

Some Nigerians who reacted to the post, however, doubted her honesty, with one twitter user (@Ayemojubar) saying: “Fake verified account. Wedon ma…If you lose control of your handle in the last couple of minutes, kindly talk to Madam Abike Lai Dabiri. She’s an expert in that field. Fastest Twitter account recovery in history – couple of minutes.”

Another twitter user (@UgwunnaEjikem), said: “10 minutes ago, you said it was a fake handle, now you’re claiming you lost control of your accounts. See, Abike my annoyance is that you are stressing Amadioha, stay one place so he can accurately fire you with exquisite thunder.”
