Achievers University To Graduate Over 700 Students At 14th Convocation

Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, is set to award degree certificates to over 700 graduates during its 14th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday.

The event, which also marks the 17th Foundation Anniversary of the institution, was announced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Omolola Irinoye, at a press briefing on Tuesday.

Prof. Irinoye revealed that 71 students will graduate with First Class Honours, while 303 students earned Second Class Honours (Upper Division), 243 graduated with Second Class Honours (Lower Division), and 35 obtained Third Class Honours.

She further said, 46 postgraduate students from 17 academic programmes will be awarded certificates, which highlights the university’s strides in postgraduate education.

Also, the university will present 143 graduate nurses for induction by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. 12 engineering graduates will also be inducted into the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), while 17 Public Health graduates will join the African Institute of Public Health Professionals.

Furthermore, 65 Medical Laboratory graduates will be inducted into the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria.

Prof. Irinoye noted that the convocation will feature the conferment of honorary Ph.D. degrees on Niger State Governor, Umar Bago; Dr. Fidelis Ayebae; and the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin, in recognition of their contributions to national development.

She stated the university’s commitment to accessible education and announced that 319 students had benefited from its 12 tuition-free academic programmes.

She noted that the institution has additionally approved a tuition discount of 65% to 80% for UTME and Direct Entry candidates in 20 other academic programmes, valid for the duration of their studies.

The vice chancellor called on the government to exempt academic institutions from tax payments to ease the financial challenges facing higher education.

She also criticized the exclusion of private university students from the Federal Government’s student loan scheme and described it as discriminatory and unfair.
