Adeleke: Police React To Buhari’s Directive, Say ‘Rule Of Law Prevails Above Any Consideration’

The Nigeria Police has told Senator Ademola Adeleke, the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, that President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive does not exonerate him.

Speaking when he appeared as a guest on NTA, on Thursday, police PRO Jimoh Moshood, said the senator can be re-invited at any time.

Moshood explained that the rule of law must be respected, as it is above any consideration.

THE WHISTLER reported on Wednesday that the police headquarters summoned Senator Adeleke for alleged examination malpractice and criminal conspiracy.

Moshood said Adeleke and Sikiru, his brother, sat for the National Examination Council Examination (NECO) as internal candidates in 2017, “impersonating” students of OJO/Aro Community Grammar School in Osun state.

The police said it was discovered the alleged crime was facilitated by the principal of the school, and two other members of staff of the school for which they are under investigation and being charged to court.

The force asked the senator and the four others allegedly involved to report to the force headquarters in Abuja for “immediate” arraignment in court.

Moshood said charges of examination malpractice, criminal conspiracy, impersonation and breach of duty have been filed against the five at the federal high court in Abuja.

But shortly after the invitation, President Buhari ordered the IGP to suspend the invitation.

However, speaking this morning, Moshood said: “There is no time limit to arresting any suspect that has been accused or there is an allegation of an offence.

“Police action terminates when a matter has been taken to court. We have filed charges in court and the matter is off our hands.

“But if there is any directive that we should not invite him, that directive does not exonerate him from [allegation/] court process and the people should know that the rule of law prevails above any other consideration.

Moshood also assured electorates of a peaceful election come Saturday in Osun state.

“As at yesterday, the Deputy Inspector-General of police in the state has gone around the state on what we call ‘the show of force exercise’ with other security agencies.

“The DIG operations is in charge of the security architecture in the state for the election, they have gone round, they have met with people and equally talked to them.

“We are enjoying very large cooperation from them, we are hopeful that come Saturday, everything will be peaceful to secure an environment for a credible election,” he added.
