According to the graphic video, it shows the Senator exchanging altercation with the store attendant and when he tried to seize her phone, another lady standing close to him in the store intervened in an attempt to dissuade him from seizing the said phone. The video shows the Senator assaulting her, hitting her in the face repeatedly in a manner that seem we live in a lawless society.

In a statement by the convener of COPA, Pelumi Olajengbesi Esq says the group condemns the act in its entirety, adding that the Senator’s actions depicts the height of lawlessness by a lawmaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Part of the statement reads: “COPA hereby declares Senator Elisha Abbo a dis-honourable Nigerian Citizen and misfit to occupy a seat in the hallow chambers of the National Assembly.

“We are appalled and perturbed that a person who is supposed to exemplify the very epitome of respectability,  honour and virtue worthy of standing in representative capacity in the highest legislative house of the country has turned out to be a boisterous, crude, callous and totally out of control liability to both his country and his constituency,” the statement added.

The group also called for the suspension from the National Assembly and the immediate arrest of the Senator: “We hereby demand for the immediate suspension of the Senator from the National Assembly as he has become a national ridicule to our laws and sensibilities and further Demand for his immediate arrest by the Nigeria Police Force.

“It is a sad coincidence that this is occurring at this time when we are yet struggling to heal our country from the ugly news of scandalous rape allegations from different quarters of the country. We have been bedevilled by yet another unconscionable assault especially against the women-folk in our dear country.

The group further urged his constituents to recall him: “We charge the People of his constituency, the good people of ADAMAWA North Senatorial District to immediately commence the Recall process of the now dis-honourable Senator to set good example for our country,” the statement concluded.

Elisha Abbo was elected Senator on February 23, 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP defeating Senator Binta Masi Garba of the All Progressives Congress, APC. He polled 79,337 votes against Mrs Garba’s 63,219 votes.
