AFCON Qualifier: Shortage Of Hotel Accommodation Rocks Edo Ahead of Game

Benin city, the capital of Edo State, has experienced a shortage in hotel accommodation ahead of the AFCON qualifier game against Sierra Leone.

This is as a result of the swearing-in of the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, for a second term, which is taking November 14, a day after the game.

Complete Sports reports that a source in Benin city revealed the dearth of hotel spaces and also shed light on the governor’s efforts to address the problem.

“Virtually all the big hotels in town have been fully booked ahead of the swearing in ceremony of Governor Godwin Obaseki billed for November 14, a day after the Super Eagles versus Sierra Leone match at the refurbished Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City

“We went round hunting for quality hotels with the NFF President Amaju Pinnick last week and discovered that all the good ones have been reserved for expected guests for the swearing in ceremony of Governor Godwin Obaseki. We are working on how best to manage the situation.

“The governor has directed we should ensure that the Super Eagles and their Sierra Leone counterparts and officials are accommodated in the best available hotels, while the match officials and NFF contingent should also get decent lodge, but they must relocate immediately after the match to allow government guests to move in.”
