Afenifere Stands With Aisha Buhari, Describes Mamman Daura’s Residency At The Villa As ‘Shameful Impunity’

The apex Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, seems to have aligned with the First Lady Aisha Buhari in the dispute involving her family and the family of Mammadn Daura, a nephew of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group, in a strongly worded statement, described as “shameful”, Daura’s decision to take up residence at the presidential villa all in a bid to be close to his longtime friend and nephew, and at the displeasure of the president’s family.

Afenifere’s statement came after one of Daura’s daughters, Fatima, alleged few days ago that her family was violently attacked by the first lady.

Speaking through its spokesperson, Yinka Odumakin, the group said it was unfortunate that a man who holds no constitutional office could allegedly be controlling the presidency.

“It is unfortunate that Nigeria has reached the point where someone who was not elected or appointed and holds no position known to our constitution has become this powerful,” Odumakin told Punch.

“It is a big shame and some of the personalities who are illegally in the Villa are granting interviews. It shows the level of impunity. It shows that our nation and the seat of power have been desecrated.”

The dispute between Daura’s family and Aisha recently became the center of public attention after Fatima leaked a video online which showed the first lady shouting and asking the Dauras to an apartment they occupied in the villa.

Reacting to the video, the first lady had told BBC Hausa: “It was Fatima, the daughter of Mamman Daura that shot the video in front of my security and everybody there. She was actually recording the whole thing right in front of me and was laughing and mocking me.

“They did that because my husband sacked them from the house. He told them to get all their belongings and leave the house for my son (Yusuf) to occupy.”

Daura, who seems to have attached himself permanently to Buhari as a siemens twin, was said to have been living in the presidential villa after Buhari became president in 2015.

He was said to have been very influential during Buhari’s military regime between 1984 and 1985.
