The Africa Centres for Disease Control (CDC) on Monday says about 35,445 individuals have died since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the continent.
The Agency in its latest update on Monday said the continent has now recorded about 1,460,084 cases while recoveries hit 1,206,237.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Regional Office for Africa, in a recent tweet, preliminary analysis suggests that over 80 per cent of COVID-19 cases in African countries are asymptomatic, as studies are now underway to test if communities had antibodies for COVID-19.

However, Nigeria maintains the highest figures in West African region with 58,324 cases, 1,108 deaths and 49,794 recoveries, as the region now has a total of 175,433 cases, 2,604 deaths and 156,434 recoveries.
WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Matshidiso Moeti, in the tweet by WHOAFRO commended the ongoing response in Africa.
“Overall, I really commend the response in African countries. We are making progress, thanks to the concerted efforts of governments, communities and partners.
“Going forward, countries should continue to strengthen data and information in implementing the key public health tools of surveillance, testing, isolation and contact tracing,” she said.
