After Meeting PDP Chieftains, Ortom Explains Dumping Of APC

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Wednesday, explained why he shunned a meeting with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after dumping the party on Monday.

Announcing his defection from the APC, Governor Ortom had said: “I have been given red card and I’m outside the pitch. So if I have been given red card and I’m standing outside, I’m a free man,” adding that he was ready to join any political party that indicates interest in him.

In its reaction to Ortom’s claim, the APC denied pushing the governor out of the party.

The ruling party also summoned the governor for a meeting today following his claim, but the governor shunned the meeting and rather accompanied some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Kwara State, where they condoled with the leader of the nPDP bloc, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, over the death of his mother.

Ortom was some in the company of PDP chieftains such as Governor Nyesom Wike, Senators George Sekibo, Adawari Pepple and Hon. Dr Barry Mpigi.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting with Kwara State Governor, AbdulFatah Ahmed, who reportedly tried convincing him to remain in the APC, Ortom insisted that the party indeed gave him “red card” and left him with no choice than to join another party.

He, however, promised to later meet with the APC leadership but noted that his total exit or continued stay in the APC will be determined by the people of Benue.
