After Military Takeover In Guinea, Fani Kayode Prays Against Coup

The government of President Alpha Condé of Guinea was on Sunday overthrown by a group of soldiers led by Col. Mamadi Doumbouya.

Condé(83), who is said to be seeking a controversial third term was arrested after a gunfire around the presidential palace.

The Associated Press reported that “a Guinean army colonel seized control of state television Sunday and declared that President Alpha Conde’s government had been dissolved and the West African nation’s borders closed.”

Doumbouya claimed that the soldiers took the action to save the country.

“The personalization of political life is over. We will no longer entrust politics to one man, we will entrust it to the people,” he said.

Reacting to the development, Nigerian politician and former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, stated that military coup seems to be spreading in Africa.

He expressed the view that the development may result in further instability in the continent.

“President Conde of Guinea appears to have been toppled in a military coup.

“The military have taken power in Mali, Chad and now Guinea all in the last one year.

“May God deliver Africa from constant instability and setbacks,” he tweeted on Sunday.
