After Naira Marley Saga, EFCC Involves Musicians, Comedians In Fight Against ‘Yahoo Yahoo’

Less than two weeks after Musician, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley was granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over allegation of internet fraud, also known as Yahoo Yahoo, the commission is set to host a musical concert to campaign against the crime.

The campaign which has as its theme “Say No To Yahoo Yahoo”, comes up on June 12 at the Unity Fountain, Abuja, will also feature comedians who will perform against the dangers and implications of internet fraud. The aim of the concert may not be unconnected with the recent allegation and trial against Marley.

Recall that Marley was arrested by the anti-graft agency on the 10th and granted bail on the 30th of May over allegation of being an internet fraudster.

His arrest came a few days after he said on a live Instagram session that Nigerians should pray for internet fraudsters as according to him they’re responsible for the “money in circulation in the Nigerian economy”, which was reportedly read by many Nigerians and even his colleagues as a support for the crime and also an indication that he may also be a fraudster.

Musician and rapper, Rugged Man also took a dig at the singer over the comment.

After his arrest, the EFCC had on May 15th disclosed that during investigation, the evidence against the singer being a fraudster was “overwhelming.”

Marley had also released a song and video titled “Am I A Yahoo Boy?”

The song which showed the singer in company of his friends operating on his laptop when suddenly security agents swooped on them and arrested him depicts how internet fraudsters are hunted down.

This new campaign of the EFCC may not be unconnected to the case of Naira Marley and thus it’s decision to use entertainers also to better drive home its message.
