After Ronaldo, Messi Teaser UEFA Drops Draw


The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), the organizer of the Champions League has annulled its draw for the round of 16 after the initial draw had peered Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to face each other in the knock out stage.

The body had released a draw on Monday which was largely criticized for blunder.

UEFA confirmed Champions League redraw after it was revealed that there was a mistake involving Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United were drawn against Paris Saint-Germaine, while Atletico Madrid were drawn against Bayern Munich.

Others were Benfica vs Real Madrid; Villarreal vs Manchester City; Red Bull Salzburg vs Liverpool and Inter vs Ajax.

Also Sporting CP were to take on Juventus based on the annulled draw.

UEFA said, “Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

“As a result of this, the draw has been declared void and will be entirely redone at 15:00 CET [3:pm].”
