After US Announced Rescue Of American Hostage In Nigeria, FG Says It Gave Approval

The federal government has said that it gave the approval before the United States military could enter the nation to conduct an operation for rescue of its citizen.

Minister of Defence Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd) made the assertion in Abuja on Tuesday.

The response was coming after many Nigerians had taken to their social media handles to praise the US forces for their gallantry in a foreign land.

The Nation reports that Magashi clarified that Nigeria was aware and approved the operation, adding that it did not violate Nigeria’s sovereignty.

THE WHISTLER reported that the United States Government had on October 31, stated that its military had rescued an American citizen taken hostage in Nigeria.

US Department of State Secretary, Mike Pompeo, who disclosed this also noted that the rescue was made possible through diplomatic relations with Nigeria.

“Thanks to the extraordinary courage and capabilities of our military, the support of our intelligence professionals, and our diplomatic efforts, the hostage will be reunited with his family.

“We will never abandon any American taken hostage,” he said.
