Again, Gunmen Attack Kaduna School, Kill 1, Abduct 8 Students, 2 Lecturers

Unknown gunmen have reportedly abducted eight students and two lecturers from the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State.

The assailants were said to have attacked the main campus, also known as UPE on Thursday night, where they shot at two students and one eventually died.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the attack to journalists on Friday.

The school, which is about 45 minutes’ drive from the Kaduna metropolis was invaded by the gunmen on Thursday night.

Speaking at the scene of the incident, Aruwan said the bandits invaded the school because they could not freely perpetrate crime along the Kaduna-Zaria road.

“There is indeed deployment of troops along the Kaduna Zaria road. They are carrying out aggressive fighters’ patrol and we are of the strong conviction that the bandits came to the institution because they were denied freedom of action on the Kaduna-Zaria road, possibly that is why they exploited the window that we saw here,” he said.

A lecturer, Galadima Ishara who had narrowly escaped kidnap, recounted his ordeal to Channels Television.

He said, “This is the third time kidnappers are coming to this campus and up till now I did not see any improvement on the security situation. Even students were among the ones that we shot yesterday, even one just died.

“In my own case I was able to escape. They went into my bathroom where I was trying to enter to enter into the celling and they dragged me down and brought me outside and inn the process of bringing me outside I realized I can push the guy since he blocked his eyes and I now push him and I took off.

“On going to the security office again, all the security people were helpless. So, they don’t have guns and when they saw me coming, they close their office and ran away.

“I had to proceed with my running and they were looking for me with Bump action guns and I was running, then luckily for me I went to hide somewhere up till when the police came two hours’ time. “It took them like two hours”.

This is the third attack on institutions in the state in recent times, with the latest coming barely three months after bandits attacked the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization Afaka in Igabi Local Government Area and Greenfield University in Chikun Local Government Area.
