A’Ibom Police Honour Fallen Officers, Present N53.7m To Families

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has presented a total sum of ₦53,755,844.94 to 34 families of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, made the presentation on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day celebration in Uyo on Thursday.

Describing the event as both solemn and significant, Azare said it serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by officers who died protecting society.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of families left behind by fallen personnel.

He noted that the deceased officers served the nation with courage, loyalty, and selflessness, adding that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.

According to him, the officers stood firm in the face of danger to ensure peace and security for others, and their legacies would remain part of the Force’s history.

Addressing the bereaved families, the Commissioner acknowledged their loss and assured them of continued support.

“The cheques being presented today are not mere financial instruments. They represent our collective gratitude and recognition of sacrifice. While no amount can replace the lives lost, this gesture underscores our resolve to ensure their sacrifices are not in vain,” he said.

Azare also commended the Inspector-General of Police for prioritising personnel welfare, noting that his leadership has strengthened timely payment of benefits and improved support systems within the Force.

He urged serving officers to see the moment as a call to duty, emphasising that policing requires courage, discipline, and, at times, the ultimate sacrifice.
