Akpabio: EFCC Arraigns Lawyer Who Petitioned

Ekpenyong was charged to court by the anti-graft agency for defamation on Thursday before the High Court in Gudu District, Abuja.
According to the charge, Ekpenyong is alleged to have made unsubstantiated allegations against top officials of the EFCC during a programme on African Independent Television (AIT).

The lawyer it was alleged accused the anti-graft agency of intimidating him and refusing to investigate the ex-governor though he had sent a petition against him. It was learnt by this medium that the Abuja-based lawyer had threatened legal action against the commission if it did not investigate Akpabio.

Ekpenyong accuses Akpabio of of massive corruption and diversion of Akwa Ibom resources in a petition dated June 8, and copied to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The trouble of the lawyer started when the ex-governor was not charged, a development thet informed the petitioner to strongly criticize the EFCC on the live television interview, alleging compromise by the commission’s leadership.

Ekpenyong was later invited by the commission to clarify his allegations during the television programme.
