The Nigerian Army has said it is yet to arrest any person or group of persons in connection with the alleged plot by some politicians to infiltrate the military.

This follows the alarm raised by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, earlier in the week saying that top politicians were approaching some soldiers for undisclosed political reasons.

The Army chief on Tuesday warned officers of the Army to steer clear of politics and politicians.

On this basis, Buratai warned such persons to desist from these acts and ordered his men to remain apolitical.

However, responding to inquiry, Thursday, on whether the Army has arrested any individual or group in connection to the claim, army spokesman, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, said no one had been interrogated and no arrests had been made.

He said: “We have always been open and transparent with information and if there is anything, we will let the public know.”

Usman also did not elaborate if there will be further investigation, beyond the warning handed down to officers and soldiers in the army by the COAS.

Buratai’s warning raised concerns of a coup plot, following President Muhammadu Buhari’s ill health and frequent trips away from the country.

The President is currently on his third trip to the United Kingdom for medical vacation.
