Alleged Money Laundering: Ex-Niger Governor’s Trial Adjourned To March 29 Due To Absence Of Judge, Counsel

A Federal Court sitting in Niger State has adjourned the money laundering (of 2 billion naira) trial of former Niger State Governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, and ex-Chief of Staff, Umar Nasko, to March 29, 2021 due to the absence of the trial Judge and one of his counsels.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which is prosecuting the case, had arraigned the governor on an amended three count charge weaved around breach of trust.

The trial judge, Justice A. B. Aliyu, was said to be absent at Monday’s proceedings resulting in the choice of another date by the prosecution and defense counsels.

According to the prosecution counsel, G.O. Adebola, the adjournment was because “the trial judge had traveled and that one of the counsels to the defendants is in self-isolation”.
