Amaechi Declares Himself ‘A Saint’ As Senate Finally Screens Him

During the screening, Amaechi said that if he is confirmed as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he will bring his wealth of experience to bear on governance.

Senator Akpabio said that the PDP caucus in the senate will not be asking Amaechi any questions as they had just received reports of the petition against him (Amaechi), and need to study the report.

Senate leader Ali Ndume proposed that Amaechi should take a bow and go.

When asked to expose the details of corruption allegations levied against him, Amaechi said “Corruption is a very broad concept. It is difficult for me to define corruption.”

He also said, “I have never taken bribe in my life.”

Amaechi added that he brought a copy of the white paper containing the report of the Panel of Inquiry instituted by the Rivers State government, declaring that there is nowhere in the report where he was indicted.

He said, “I have the full report here and there is no place in it where I was indicted for corruption.

“If the senate president permits me, I’ll lay the full report before the senate.”

He revealed that the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, which he chaired at some point, was formed to check executive recklessness.

He said, “The radical nature of the governors’ forum made the former president to tell me that I have turned the governors’ forum into a trade union.”

Amaechi also said that we must diversify the economy and invest heavily in education, “We must improve on the social welfare of the people. If we do this, there will be peace.” He added.

After answering questions bordering on various issues, Amaechi was asked to take a bow and leave, after about 50 minutes of screening.
