Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state, on Tuesday, accused members of the Presidential Task force Implementation Committee on the alienation of Federal Government Landed Properties, of not working in the interest of Federal Government nor the state, urging that it be disbanded.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, Ambode said the call became necessary following several petitions over unacceptable activities of the federal task force.

The governor stated that the taskforce, whose existence and legality was still in doubt, had unlawfully embarked on brazen seizure and appropriation of state and federal government properties.

According to him, the activities of the task force had left in its wake a near total destruction, displacement, stoppage including unprovoked mass harassment, intimidation, molestation and denial of the original owners of the land and properties.

The task force began its operations during the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Also, Governor Ambode has charged Private Sector Participants, PSPs, to improve on waste management performance in line with basic standard in order to ensure a cleaner and healthier state.

He made the remarks through the new Managing Director of Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Mr. Abdulwahab Ogunbiyi during his inaugural meeting with stakeholders at Waste Transfer Loading site, Agege.

He also solicited for the support of the stakeholders for effective waste management and assured them that the authority would continue to make available all the necessary infrastructural technical assistance for the private collectors to enhance their services.

He said it is no longer the responsibility of LAWMA alone to be carrying waste all around, but to manage and regulate the activities of the PSPs,

“But as partners we all have to join hands to ensure a cleaner and healthier state” he said.

He also promised to build on the achievements of his immediate predecessor, Mr. Ola Oresanya whom he described as a bosom colleague and commended him for taking the agency to an enviable height.
