Amnesty International Condemns Kaduna Violence, Wants Impartial Investigation

Human rights group, Amnesty International, has condemned the violence in Kaduna state that has claimed several lives in the past few days.

“Amnesty International condemns the violence that claimed lives in some parts of Kaduna state. While lauding the security measures taken by the Governor of Kaduna state that tamed escalation, we also call for impartial investigation that can bring perpetrators to justice,” the body tweeted on Tuesday.

The latest communal violence in Kasuwan Magani area of the state has claimed 55 lives.

In reaction, Governor Nasir el-Rufa’I had imposed a 24-hour curfew on Sunday which was selectively reviewed on Tuesday by the state’s security meeting.

Following the review, the Security Council recommended that the curfew in Kasuwan Magani and Kujama is relaxed so that people can move between 6am and 5pm. The curfew in Kasuwan Magani and Kujama remains but will now be enforced from dusk to dawn – from 5pm in the evening to 6am in the morning, till further notice.
