Amnesty Int’l To Ganduje: Respect Sanusi’s Freedom Of Expression, Movement

Amnesty International has called on the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led government of Kano State to respect the rights of former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Sanusi was on Monday dethroned by Ganduje for alleged insubordination, after which he was banished from the state.

The world human rights body on Tuesday called on the federal and state governments to respect the former Emir’s freedom of expression and movement.

Amnesty added that restricting Sanusi’s movement or banishing him violates his human rights as contained in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and international human right laws alike.

Amnesty further called on the government to take adequate measures to protect the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor.

The statement released on its official twitter @ AmnestyNigeria read, “Amnesty International calls on Nigerian authorities to respect the human rights of former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II; his to right to dignity, freedom of expression and freedom of movement.

“Restricting the former emir and placing him incommunicado violates his human rights as protected under the constitution and international human rights law.

“Amnesty International calls on the Nigerian authorities to take steps to protect and respect the former Emir’s fundamental human rights in accordance to the rule of law.”
