Amosun Shuts Traders From MKO Stadium Over Prostitution Claims

Ogun State government has sent traders parking out of the famous MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.

The government claim the stadium had been converted into a sex hotspot for prostitutes and teenagers in the state.

Sex workers were said to have have taken advantage of the development to do brisk trade, with men paying between N500 and N1,000 for quickies.

The stadium was also said to have become a fertile ground for drug dealers to market their stuff.

Commissioner for Youths and Sports Afolabi Afuape, who supervised the ejection, said the traders were sent packing because “the notice given to them expired Wednesday”.

“Government is very worried about the high rate of teenage prostitution, drug dealing and noise pollution on the premises,” spokesman for the sports ministry Akinbobola Adeniyi quoted Afuape as saying.

“Even as the state government regrets any inconvenience the action might have caused those having their legitimate businesses there, I want to say that the decision taken is in the interest of the good people of Ogun State.”

The commissioner added that the ministry would no longer accommodate any non-sporting activities in the four stadiums owned by the state.
