Anambra Cult Killings: Police Arrest Market Leader ‘Baby Awka’

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested the leader of Awka Central market in the state, Emeka Agumadu, popularly known as “Baby Awka.”

According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, Agumadu was arrested for allegedly sponsoring cult-related killings in the area.

The police PRO said the Commissioner of Police in the State, John Abang led the team that arrested the market leader and three others.

He said “Baby Awka”, who is a high chief in Awka was arrested on Tuesday.

The statement read partly, “It  would be recalled that on the 10th and 11/08/2019, there was a clash between two rival cult groups, the Black Axe and Vikings confraternities at Eckoka and Dike Park all in Awka South LGA of Anambra State where one Chinedu, surname yet unknown alias Nambo and Uche Anarah were brutally murdered.

“Following the incidents and while acting on credible intelligence, the command’s Puff Adder operatives led by the Commissioner of Police John Abang had on the 13/08/2019 around 4: 20 p.m. launched a manhunt for the hoodlums at Dike Park and Umukwa village areas of Awka, arrested four suspected sponsors/members of Black Axe and Vikings confraternities,” the statement concluded.

According to the statement, the names of those arrested are Prince Collin Ozojiofor, Okechukwu Nwaneke, Nwankwo Chukwuma and Ozor Emeka Agwumadu a.k.a Baby Awka.

Mohammed said efforts were being intensified to track down and arrest other fleeing gang members involved in the killings after which they would be prosecuted.
