Anambra Election: Labour Party Suspends Chairman For Endorsing Obiano

The Labour Party (LP) in Anambra has suspended its chairman, Uche Ugwoji, alongside seven others, for allegedly endorsing Governor Willie Obiano ahead of the November 18 gubernatorial election in the state.

Ugwoji has been accused of teaming up with the 7 others in giving backings to the re-election of Governor Obiano of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

The development was announced on Wednesday in a statement by Labour Party’s Publicity Secretary, Eddy Okoye, who described their actions as “selfish, illegal and a demonstration of anti-party behaviour.’’

Okoye gave the names of others suspended by the party as; Messrs Ejike Onuora, Alex Obi, Bertram Enukora, Ifeanyi Mbagwu, Greg Mmerube, Longinus Nnajiofor and Okecima Anizoba.

“The Labour Party hereby dissociates itself from the purported endorsement of Governor Willie Obiano by some people masquerading as the party’s executives in Anambra.

“The affected members have been suspended immediately for insubordination, gross indiscipline and anti party activities,’’ he said.

Reacting to his suspension, Ugwoji said, “The allegation is not true; we have our own candidate; how can we endorse another party’s candidate?

“This is frivolous, baseless and handiwork of people who want to start another crisis in Labour Party,” he said.
