Anambra Guber: I Didn’t Faint Or Call For Cancellation Of Election – APC Chairman

Basil Ejidike, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, has denied that his party called for cancellation of the November 6 governorship election in the state.

Ejidike also refuted reports that he collapsed after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) allegedly defeated the APC in his local government.

A photo purporting to show the moment he collapsed had gone viral on social media on the day of the election.

The photo which showed a man on his knees being helped into a car has since been found to be fake.

Ejidike denied the claims and stated his party’s position regarding the election at a news conference held at the Awka secretariat of the APC on Monday.

“I was surprised that several reports were circulated in the social media saying that APC called for cancellation of the election, that the chairman of APC fainted and also lost his polling unit.

“All the reports were fake, and at no time did I make such statement in the media.

“There is no how we could have called for the cancellation of the results in an ongoing election,” he said.

Ejidike further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to correct alleged errors recorded in Idemili North, Orumba North, Anambra East, Ayamelum, Anambra West and Awka North.

“But all we are advising the electoral umpire at this stage is for them to right the wrong because there are a lot of flaws recorded during Saturday governorship election,” he said.

INEC’s returning officer, Florence Obi, had declared the Anambra governorship election inconclusive on the grounds that voting did not take place in Ihiala Local Government Area due to reports of insecurity.

Obi had announced that a supplementary election will hold in 362 polling units in Ihiala LGA on Tuesday, November 9.
