Anambra Guber: Igbo Group Berates Gov Obiano, Opposition Parties

Ahead of the November 6, 2021 governorship election in Anambra State, Ndigbo Unity Forum (NUF), Monday, warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties, aspirants and other stakeholders of the consequences of not playing by the rules.

The forum, which spoke through its president general, Dede Uzor A. Uzor in Awka, decried the manner some political parties and aspirants undermine electoral processes to win the exalted seat at all cost.

Uzor therefore advised aspirants ‘to go out and market themselves to the people of the state instead of thinking and plotting to win the election through the unorthodox means’. He also warned the stakeholders of the consequences of such actions, stating that ‘it cannot work out in Anambra State’.

He said, “The opposition has issues to campaign with because the incumbent has failed the people and become complacent, which has provided them a lot of windows to expose the weaknesses of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Unfortunately, the opposition has not taken this advantage to take APGA to the cleaners, rather they want to circumvent the electoral system and become the governor of the state by default, which cannot happen.”

NUF further lamented Gov Obiano’s ‘poor scorecard which may deny APGA the opportunity to produce Obiano’s successor’, and accused the governor of ‘being complacent with power’. According to it, the APGA-led state government abandoned the development agenda for the state, hence the growing infrastructural decay in the state.

Quoting the group, “The roads in the state are virtually in deplorable condition due to lack of government attention. There is no potable water anywhere in the state. There is lawlessness everywhere. People are suffering and the government is indifferent. There is no basic infrastructure.”

The group also challenged the INEC and the security operatives to follow all the laid-down rules and regulations guiding the election, instead of working for a particular party.

“INEC has an ample time to plan to conduct a free and fair election,” said the group, noting that, “With this long period of planning, there should be no room for malfunctioning or short supply of equipment during the election.”
