Anambra Indigenes Commend Nwobodo’s Leadership 43 Years After

The Anambra State Indigenes Living in Enugu say they remain grateful to the former governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, because of his leadership savvy.

Nwobodo governed old Anambra State, compromising the present Anambra, Ebonyi, and Enugu states from 1979 to 1983. He later served as a Minister of the Federal Republic as well as a senator representing Enugu East. Nwobodo is currently the head of his clan in Amechi-Uno, Enugu South LGA of Enugu State.

The Anambra Indigenes said during their visit to Nwobodo at his country home that they would remain grateful to him because of his “pragmatic, inclusive and non-discriminatory style of governance”.

The group, led by its President, Chief E.U. Adimora said the visit was in recognition of Nwobodo’s leadership and enduring legacy in the old Anambra State.

Adimora said, “We thank God for our lives and for the long relationship we have had with Senator Jim Nwobodo since his time as governor of Anambra State. We appreciate the deep sense of fairness and concern he showed for Ndi Anambra and Ndigbo in general.”

He added that Nwobodo’s affection and goodwill, as demonstrated during his time in office, would remain indelible. He thanked God for providing the sage with old age and good health.

In his words, “When we heard that he had relocated to his ancestral home, we decided to visit him and share in the joy of his housewarming. He governed with a sense of unity and inclusiveness. That relationship did not end because he left the office. As long as he is alive, we will continue to honour and associate with him.”

The Deputy National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Omeife Omeife, in a speech, commended Nwobodo’s infrastructural developments during that period. Our correspondent reports that Senator Nwobodo built the three campuses of then Anambra State University of Science and Technology, that metamorphosed into the current Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu; Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Present at the event included the Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Council, Hon Calab Ani.
