Anambra Man Rescued From Jumping Off Lagos Bridge

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says it has rescued a young man who tried to commit suicide by jumping from the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge.

LASEMA said the Anambra indigene who resides in Ejigbo, Lagos, made the suicide attempt at about 10:35 pm on Saturday.

The agency said its officials rescued the man after convincing him not to take his life at the popular Lagos bridge.

LASEMA did not disclose the young man’s identity nor the reason he gave for trying to take his own life.

“About 22:35hrs on the 17th October 2020, a suicide case was reported to the Agency.
Response was activated to the scene to save the life of the young man (name withheld) who hails from Anambra state and resides in Ejigbo

“The Agency Responders were able to convince/ rescue the young man from his jump off point. He was later examined by the Agency’s Paramedics before being handed over to Known Samaritans (Mr ODUKOYA AND Mr OKANLAWON) who have committed to ensure adequate therapy and counseling,” the agency said in a tweet on Sunday.

The frequency of suicide and attempted suicide in Lagos State has continued to be on the rise.

A young banker, Kelvin Rhima, had in May committed suicide at Modinatu Street in Ogba area of the state.

Rhima’s lifeless body was said to have been found dangling from a ceiling fan in his apartment by neighbours.

In July, 32-year-old man identified as Aboh Ogbeche also reportedly committed suicide at his family residence in Lawanson, Surulere, by ingesting bleach.
