Anambra Police Arrest 80 Suspected Cultists In 15 Days

The Anambra State Police Command has announced the arrest of 80 suspected cultists in the state within September 2020. The command’s public relations officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, told newsmen that the feat was to stem the tide of cultism and other nefarious activities in the state, especially during the period of ember months. THE WHISTLER gathered that the arrests were effected by the command’s Special Anti-Cult Unit (SPACS).

According to SP Mohammed, they were arrested at Ogidi/Nkpor axis, Awka/Amansea axis, Onitsha/Nkpor axis, Oba/Nnewi axis, Nsugbe/Nkwelle-Ezunaka axis, Ogbunike/Abagana axis, Nawfia, Nimo/Abagana axis, Ifitedunu/Awkuzu axis, Amikwo, Nsugbe/3-3 axis, and Ebenebe/Ugbenu axis.

In his words, “From all the raids carried out, a total of 80 suspects were arrested out of which 40 suspects were charged to court, 15 suspects were screened and released unconditionally, five were placed under police supervision for being under aged while 20 suspects, including a 16-year-old Echezoma Metu, ‘m’, who was arrested with a double-barrel gun inside his school compound at Igboukwu, are undergoing investigations.”

Exhibits recovered from the suspects are two pump action guns, ten machetes, five axes, two daggers, three barrettes, one-double barrel gun, two-locally made pistol and three live cartridges.

Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, CP John B. Abang, has commended residents of the state for providing the command with actionable intelligence, and reassured them of adequate protection. He further urged them to report any suspicious persons to the nearest police station or call the police emergency number 07039194332 for prompt response.
