Anambra Police Patrol Team Arrest Suspected Cultists Found With Fully-loaded Baretta Pistol

A police patrol team attached to B’ Division, Awka, in Anambra State, Wednesday, at about 2pm, arrested two suspects in a tricycle for allegedly possessing a baretta pistol. THE WHISTLER gathered that they were arrested by the police operatives on stop-and-search operations along Millennium road, Awka.

The police PRO, Anambra State police command, SP Haruna Mohammed, gave the names of the suspects as 21-year-old Obiako Chukwujekwu Henry (alias Ajie), from Umudioka village, Awka, and 27-year-old-Emmanuel Echezona Ogbonna (alias Oceanic), a native of Ikwo in Ebonyi State, but resident at Ezejiaku street, Umueri, Awka.

According to him, “The police operatives intercepted a tricycle with two occupants behaving in a suspicious manner. A bag was concealed inside the tricycle, and upon search of the bag, an English-made baretta pistol with filed-out breech number loaded with three rounds of .9mm live ammunition was recovered therefrom. The suspects were promptly arrested. They are assisting the police with useful information to unravel their motive of being in possession of a prohibited firearm after which they would be brought to justice.”

Our correspondent reports that cases of cult clashes have been on the increase in Awka prior to the commencement of a 24-hour patrol by the command’s Rapid Response Squad and other patrol teams in the state.
