Anger In Osun As Policeman Kills Technician, Shoots Truck Driver

A yet-to-be identified policeman has shot dead a borehole machine operator, Kabiru Bapai, at around Ota-Egun area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The trigger happy cop reportedly shot and injured the driver of the borehole drilling company, Harisu Musa.

It was gathered that the incident happened when the truck belonging to Shekeenah Zelter Global Concept developed a fault around Ota-Efun Police Station

Some policemen plying the route were said to have challenged the truck driver for obstructing traffic with the vehicle and this was said to have resulted in an altercation.

It was learnt that angry passersby gathered and pounced on the policeman who fired the shot and beat him to stupor.

They were said to have carried the corpse of the operator to the police station.

Scared that they might be lynched by the angry mob, the policemen at the station were said to have shot in the air many times to disperse the crowd of angry youths.

The Executive Operating Partner of the company, Bayo Daudu, told journalists that the deceased and the injured driver left Ede on Friday morning and were traveling to Igbajo when the vehicle broke down and the policeman attacked them.

He said, “We demand that justice must be served and nothing must be covered up. Policemen should not be shooting at people at will.

“If justice is served, it will cause other trigger-happy policemen to think twice before shooting harmless people.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident.

She said investigation had begun into the incident while calling on the youths to be calm.
