Antonio Conte Departs Chelsea

Antonio Conte has cut his ties with last season’s FA cup winners, Chelsea, after two years in charge.

Conte’s departure was confirmed by former Blues Captain John Terry, who spent 19 years at Stamford Bridge.

Though Chelsea are yet to confirm the exit of the 48-year-old, who won the Premier League title in his first season and the FA Cup in May, reports have it that ex-Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri is close to taking over at the club.

Should Sarri be appointed, he would be Chelsea’s ninth full-time manager since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003.

A poor start to 2018, which resulted in Chelsea missing out on Champions League qualification last season, put the Italian under heavy critism from the club management.

The London club exit from the top four means they will be in the Europa League next season.

Recall that the Italian often vented his frustration about the club’s transfer policy throughout last season, with his relationship with the players strained, which saw players like Diego Costa and Terry depart Stamford Bridge unceremoniously.

The 48-year-old Conte oversaw 106 games, winning 69 and drawing 20.
