Apapa Gridlock: Nigerians Dig Out Evidence To Counter Sanwo-Olu
Exactly a month after assuring Nigerians that he will resolve the traffic gridlock on the Apapa axis of the state within 60 days of assuming office, the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has denied the statement.
“If the government had been forward looking, it would have known that the volume of imports coming through the Apapa Wharf has since out-grown the port. The Apapa trailer issues is very serious. It was a campaign issue, it is a very serious issue.

“There is a lot of politics being played around it, but we cannot give excuses. I believe we are going to solve it in the first 60 days. We will take them out,” the new governor had said during a congratulatory dinner organised in his honour by the 1999/2000 MBA class of University of Lagos (UNILAG).
But in a statement yesterday, while fielding questions from newsmen in the Presidential Villa after a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari, Sanwo-Olu said he never promised to fix the gridlock in the port community of Apapa in 60 days.
According to him, the only thing he promised during the campaigns and in the weeks preceding his inauguration was a “review” of what he would have done in Apapa in 60 days.
The governor said: “Interestingly, some media houses are already counting down to the day. They said that I mentioned during the campaign train that I was going to clear it (the gridlock) in 60 days.

“I have mentioned it before; what I said was that in 60 days, we would review what was done; but that does not take the fact that even if people give you datelines, it is because they want you to do well and they want you to be accountable for those datelines.”
Nigerians, who sharply reacted to the governors’ latest claim, went to the social media to dig out evidence to prove him wrong.
Some others slammed the governor for backtracking his statement, adding that the present Apapa gridlock must not be politicized.
