APC Has Learnt Lessons – Gombe Gov

…Party Inaugurates Committee, Promises To Win Bayelsa By-Elections

Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) has learnt its lessons after losing some states to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the past.

Inuwa Yahaya stated this on Tuesday after the inauguration of the reconciliation and election committee for Bayelsa Central/ West Senatorial Districts by-elections coming up on October 31st.

The party had a few days ago, appointed Inuwa Yahaya as the Chairman and 10 others as members of the committee.

The APC had last year lost Zamfara State to the PDP after the Supreme Court voided its victory, saying that the party presented no candidates for the February and March general elections.

The party also lost Bayelsa state after the Supreme Court disqualified the already won election by the APC’ Governorship Candidate, David Lyon, over a certificate issue involving his deputy.

Recently, the ruling party also lost Edo State to the PDP at the September 19th governorship election in the state.

The governor also assured that his committee would do everything possible to deliver APC during the by-elections.

He also promised to reach out to aggrieved members for the overall interest of the party.

The governor said: “I will like to assure you that we shall do everything possible and we shall leave no stone unturned until we take APC to Bayelsa State.

“Like I said; not minding the enormity of the task ahead of us, because I believe each and everyone of us is conscious of the problems our great party is going through, that resulted into the setting up of the caretaker committee.

“Mindful of the problems the APC went through that resulted in various loses; from Zamfara to even Bayelsa and to other states and most recently, Edo state. It’s very sad and an unfortunate development.

“I believe we’ve learnt our lessons, we’ve learnt the fact that we need to live together, and we need to reconcile and always leave room for reconciliation and for give and take in politics. Politics is all about managing relationships within a group that have common interest and I believe we all have and share a common interest.

“We shall do all it takes to deliver and we shall deliver.”

Earlier, while inaugurating the committee, Caretaker/Extraordinary National Convention Committee Chairman and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, informed the committee that its assignment fell within the mandate of providing genuine reconciliation to give every party member in Bayelsa state a true sense of belonging.

Represented by the Secretary of the caretaker committee, John Akpanudoedehe, Buni charged the committee to be just, fair, transparent and objective in executing the assignment.

He also called on them to always place party interests over and above personal interests and “carry everyone on board for us to succeed.”

He also said: “Similarly, your committee is mandated to mobilize, strategize and deliver Bayelsa Central and West Senatorial districts to the party. Our success in this election is very crucial and strategic because of the need to have more supporting hands in the national assembly for improved collaboration and synergy with the President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR administration to successfully execute its policies and programmes to improve the lives of Nigerians.

“It has become imperative for us as the leading political party in Nigeria to build a virile, strong, vibrant and more united APC that would serve beyond, two, three, four or even five terms of office to ensure continuity and consolidation of the gains the party has achieved. This remains the surest way to fully actualize our manifesto and improve the lives of Nigerians.

“We must not allow the good foundation laid by the President Muhammadu Buhari government to be wasted and for Nigeria to be taken back to the dark ages.”
