APC Hits PDP Governors Over ‘State Of The Nation’ Communiqué

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has hit back at governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over a recent communiqué they issued accusing the Muhammadu Buhari administration of mismanaging the economy.

THE WHISTLER reported that thirteen PDP governors had after a meeting in Akwa Ibom on Monday, accused the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and some government revenue generating agencies of operating “without any form of controls or supervision”, thereby subjecting citizens to poor living conditions.

The governors also accused President Muhammadu Buhari of threatening the country’s cooperate existence through incessant abuse of his powers.

They also criticised “the rising debt profile of Nigeria with over 80 per cent of normal appropriation spent on debt servicing” under Buhari, adding that, “All the gains of the PDP government under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, where Nigeria exited its foreign debt obligations, have been destroyed.”

But reacting, APC claimed that the opposition party was in panic mode over its “dwindling fortunes”

The ruling party’s Acting National Secretary, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, responded in a statement titled “PDP Panicked By APC’s 40 Million Membership, Support Base… Loans Invested in Critical Infrastructure, not Private Pockets.”

Akpanudoedehe also claimed that PDP’s latest criticism of Buhari’s administration was because governors elected on the opposition party’s platform were “leaving the party in droves and joining the APC.”

On PDP’s criticism of loans procured by the Buhari administration, Akpanudoedehe said: “If the APC government has taken loans, it has been invested in visible infrastructure projects across the country as opposed to past PDP administrations where loans were diverted to private pockets.”

He said, “Again, the PDP alleges that the APC administration is claiming projects executed by them, but without naming any of such projects to support their bogus allegations.

“Perhaps, the PDP is referring to the litany of abandoned projects it left behind all over the country despite spending 16 years in power and receiving unprecedented earnings when crude oil sold for as high as $150 per barrel.”
